Delphos Running Club

The Delphos Running club was created from a dream to network with community members that share common goals of staying active, healthy and giving back to Delphos.  The first event of the Delphos Running Club was held on May 15, 2014 and the first group of 15 friends soon grew to 70-80 participants each week over the next six years!  The club now meets every Thursday evening at The Rustic Café from April to September.  A 5k route is marked off and you can run or walk these 3.1 miles with the motivation of “Run for a Reason”.  Each month a different charity or organization will be given the proceeds that patrons donate each week.  Since 2014, the Delphos Running Club has raised increasing funds for local organizations and community members in need of assistance while supporting over 20 other organizations.

The purpose of the Delphos Running Club is to support local non-profits and organizations while also motivating community members to stay active and healthy.  The financial support received from members assists with the charitable organizations of the month achieving their goals/needs.  The Delphos Running Club has assisted the Delphos Senior Center  in purchasing exercise videos and equipment for their members.   There was a need for an AED Machine for the Silver Sneaker Group and the DRC was ready to help.   The Delphos Softball Association was provided a donation to building dug-outs on the softball diamond, a significant addition for the girl’s league.

The passion of the Delphos Running Club has extended past the community of Delphos.  There were 21 DRC members who joined and ran the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Marathon in Columbus, Ohio.   Setting personal goals, representing the Delphos Running Club and the Delphos community and surely “Running for a Reason” with this great cause.

The participant amount has grown every year.  In 2019 the Delphos Running club decided to add participation awards for each level (5, 10 and 15 week awards).  This was a great success and they consistently had over 85 people each Thursday evening.  More participation means more people in Delphos taking control of their health and giving back to their community each week with that 3.1 miles!  The participants in the Delphos running club share a special bond because of common goals, passion to serve the community, and wiliness to support each other. Every person has their own reason as to why they #runforareason and that’s what makes the Delphos Run Club unique and successful.

Congratulations Delphos Running Club as being a top finalist for the Delphos Chamber Non-Profit Club/Business Award. Thank you for your time and commitment to Delphos.
