Canal Days Cancelled
The Canal Days Core Committee really wanted to give Delphos a great Canal Days this year but dealing with the coronavirus was just too much.
“We put the decision off as long as we could but feel that it’s best for the community not to have it. We don’t want to see anyone contract the virus just because we had Canal Days,” Event Coordinator Diane Sterling said.
Everything was still being planned up until a couple of weeks ago but the core committee wanted to see how the Fourth of July went before making the final decision.
The group was also in contact with the health department to see what was required for a festival and there were too many disinfecting and social distancing procedures to follow.
“It just wasn’t worth it, especially with the large crowd Canal Days draws all weekend long,” Core Committee Member Eric Fritz said.
The committee is going to close the books on 2020 because of COVID-19 but they are hoping that next year’s festival set for Sept. 17-19, 2021, is bigger and better than ever.
